Books I Have Recently Read and Would Recommend
- Thoughts for Young Men - J.C. Ryle
This is an excellent book of advice and exhortation to live a pure life
that is pleasing to God. In my personal opinion, Ryle hits the nail on
the head when it comes to anticipating problems that young men face,
and addressing them with godly wisdom.
- Studies in the Sermon on the Mount - D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones
An excellent exposition on the teachings of Christ in the Sermon on the
Mount. Have you ever wondered what "Blessed are the poor in spirit"
means? Lloyd-Jones explaines it, spending ten pages on that phrase
alone. The book is divided into 60 sermons, each of about 10 pages in
length. This format makes it easy to read the book over a longer
period of time without losing the value it provides.
- Transforming Grace - Jerry Bridges
The idea that we are saved by grace, but then are left on our own to
live the Christian life by 'works' is one that can cause
discouragement. This book deals that issue and its consequences to
the daily life of a Christian.
- In His Steps - Charles M. Sheldon
This is a novel about a church that agrees to ask itself the question
"What would Jesus do?" before making any decision, and then imitating
Christ. It is a powerfully inspirational and challenging book.
